That will eliminate Win7, the 64-bit part and Steam. Ultimately, I will be able to test for sure, by booting into XP (same PC) and using the retail version. I’m playing other games too and they have no issues. Although I don’t think so, else Windows itself would BSOD and crash, etc. No crashes for 6 missions and 22+ hours gameplay, but now it crashes like crazy? Why? The only symptom I could understand would be the PC’s RAM going bad. Now that the next mission is also crashing I’m not happy at all - ergo why I’m going to check the RAM. What could be causing this? I thought that perhaps that mission was triggering some specific issues. I’m going to check my memory very soon using a bootable USB stick with Memtest86+. I validated the files with Steam and they are okay. Now I’m on Win7 64-bit using the Steam version - which is patched to the latest version (v2.6xx something). Last time I played CoH (retail) was in 2008/09 using whatever the latest patches were at the time. Except I used satchels on another 10+ buildings on the same level, without crashing, so it’s not as if using satchels causes the crash. WTF? That’s how I managed to finish the level - using different tactics. So after a few repeats I decide to destroy the building using a tank. A few seconds after the building collapsed the game crashed. For example, during Sottevast, there was a building (out of many) that I kept blowing up using the soldier’s explosive satchel. I just started the 8th mission, and am already getting crashes again. That’s at least an improvement on the hard locks. Since then, no more hard locks - now, it exits to desktop and opens the Relic crash reporter program. Instead of hard locking, it went back to the desktop and it even had the Relic crash reporter window ready to send the crash report.
Yesterday, as I kept playing the level, it crashed rather than hard locked. Starting with the Sottevast mission, the game froze. That means I played for over 22 hours, over several days without a singlew crash or issue of any kind. I spend an average of 3.7 hours per level. I got up to the 7th mission, Sottevast, without any problems. I started another play through of this amazing game.
